BB;s Market to add steakhouse; Arepa Burger food truck open again

There are changes happening at BB's Market at 1915 S. Walnut St. In the second room, where there once was more seating for patrons, renovations are underway. The space will open in a month or two as The Butcher's Cut, a casual steakhouse.

Customers will be able to pick a cut of meat from the meat case and have it cooked to their specifications. Details for the steakhouse are still being worked out, so look for updates in future columns.

That's not all that's happening at BB's Market, which is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Breakfast is new for the restaurant, which now offers biscuits and gravy and breakfast sandwiches, with more to come. Look for grab-and-go options for breakfast and lunch in the near future, with rotisserie chicken and hot sandwiches available for people on the run. The made-in-house bakery will continue to supply desserts, pastries and other goodies throughout the day.

Arepa Burger, a newer food truck specializing in Venezuelan arepas, burgers and fried snacks, plans be open 5-10 p.m. Thursday and noon to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Williamsburg Court parking lot at 223 S. Pete Ellis Drive.

Owner Marcos Curiel said the cold weather and some broken pipes kept him from having the food truck open this past week at the Pete Ellis location. He was able to sell some food from the secondary location at 2361 W. Rappel Ave. but only pickup or delivery, which is available through the food truck's Facebook page.

At either location, people can order arepas, burgers, Venezuelan cheese sticks or 8- or 12-inch hoagie sandwiches with lettuce, stringshoe potatoes, a special sauce and a choice of meat (chicken, beef or a mix) all topped with cheese. Curiel said arepas with chicken, avocado and mayo are the most popular and sell for $8.

Lennie's is celebrating Canada today and Thursday with its O Canada specials, available 4-9 p.m. both days. The special starter is poutine, with french fries, cheddar cheese curds smothered in a rich beef and wine gravy. There are vegetarian and vegan options available.

For entrees, try the Montreal smoked meat sandwich with thin slices of house-cured and smoked beef brisket, with yellow mustard on rye and served with fries; or the sockeye salmon filet with maple-mustard glaze served with oven-roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts and carrots. Special dessert available is Nanaimo, a bar dessert with three layers: graham cracker, coconut and mixed nut crust, and a vanilla custard filling topped off by dark chocolate ganache.

Lennie's is at 514 E. Kirkwood Ave.
