An advanced industry breakthrough has been promised by Bavarian-based equipment specialists Somic, with the release of its new 434 machine line at this year's eagerly-anticipated Interpack, writes Neill Barston.

The company has created a one-stop solution for all future-oriented packaging concepts with this new machine series for tray packaging, tray-cover or wraparound solutions.

The new modular Somic 434 machine concept is based on proven, tested and standardised function groups and offers maximum performance on a compact footprint.

Users in the food, confectionery, pet food, non-food and pharmaceutical sectors can benefit from numerous innovations. One of the main focuses is on quick format changeover, which is a crucial requirement for many customers. "We think that format changeover will remain a top concern in customised machine design," says Josef Bliemel, director of systems engineering at Somic, and a key player in developing the new machine series.

Different household sizes and the wide range of variants in the food sector place high demands on the adaptability of the packaging machine.

As a result, the new machine series offers double benefit for customers: Operators benefit from the user-friendly machine design, and the production planning teams benefit from the machine's high flexibility.

Nick Aikenhead, MD of Alpma GB, which represents Sollich in the UK, believed there was a strong sense of anticipation ahead of the event, taking placed in Dusseldorf between 4-10 May. Speaking to Confectionery Production, he said: "For Interpack, Somic will launch some incredible developments of the evo- lution of the 424 to the new 434 series and world first innovations in infeed, mixing, orientation in the smallest footprint with flexibility never seen previously.
